Language in Action

You have studied the language…and now you get to experience the culture!

The JHU Madrid Language Exchange program serves as a dynamic and immersive way for students who seek to enhance their linguistic proficiency while diving into the cultural exploration of their new home: Madrid. This initiative fosters reciprocal learning, pairing individuals fluent in Spanish and English to engage in a language swap during the semester. For study abroad students, this program offers a unique opportunity to not only refine their language skills but also to forge meaningful connections with local peers.

By actively engaging in conversations and cultural exchanges, participants gain a deeper understanding of the Spanish language in its real-life context, honing their communication skills in an authentic and interactive setting. This experiential learning approach goes beyond the confines of traditional language classes, offering our students a richer, more nuanced appreciation of Spain’s language, culture, and people, contributing to a more profound and holistic international education experience.

  3. Make sure to set up times and dates to meet, on or off campus, with your partner. It is important you agree to meet constantly to practice your language skills!
